Weekend Review (18th/19th Feb '12)

The under 21's scored a last minute winner through Keith Murray against Broxburn Athletic FC to progress to the quarter-finals of the South East Region Cup.  Against higher league opposition, we more than held our own and a fantastic team effort seen the team win 3-2, with them now facing Edinburgh City at home in the next round.  A full match report on this game should be available on the site tomorrow.

Unfortunately, our under 19's game was called off late on against Hunterfield BC due to a waterlogged pitch, which meant that they sat idle this weekend.

The under 17's made the long trip to Banchory BC as the last remaining team representing the club in The Scottish Cup.  Unfortunately, we lost 3-1 after extra time, but the team played well and had a few decisions gone their way, they could have progressed.  Reaching this round of the Scottish Cup and being the last team from Edinburgh in the competition at this age group is still a great achievement and the team will now turn their attention to local cups and the league.

The Sunday morning games at Leith Links had to be postponed due to them still being frozen come 10:00am, which meant that our three under 14's teams seen no action this weekend.  We work hard to keep our pitches in good order and it was just unfortunate that the temperature hadn't risen sufficiently enough by kick off.

The two under 13's managed to get games played and unfortunately, the 1st team at thsi age group lost 5-1 to Musselburgh Windsor in the Peter O'Neill Cup, semi-finals.  The 13's colts were also in action and they drew 1-1 with Spartans FC in their league cup section.

On Sunday afternoon, our East of Scotland 19's came from being 2-0 behind at half-time to Coldstream FC, eventually winning the game 3-2, with a trialist scoring the winner in the 86th minute.  We already had a depleted squad due to injuries and suspensions and we lost two players early on due to injuries, but the lads rallied round and we deservedly won the game in the end.

The under 15's also continued their great league form this season, winning 10-1 to Liberton United.  The first 25 minutes of the game was great to watch and the team played some brilliant stuff throughout the match.  This team are top of their league and currently sit five points ahead of their nearest rivals, with two games in hand.

Our Ladies team had their second pre-season friendly against a strong Murieston United FC where they lost 3-0.  The team are progressing well and everyone is looking forward to their season starting next month.

The last game of the day seen our under 16's travel to Star "A" in an important league match.  The teams form has dipped since Christmas and despite losing 1-0 today, the coaches were extremely pleased with the performance and hopefully this will see the team get back to their very best in the next few weeks and continue with their promotion push.
