Management Thoughts:
This Saturday we travel to Broxburn to play Broxburn Athletic Colts in the 2nd round of the Sports Assist South East Region Cup. Last season saw both our 19’s team and last seasons 21’s team make the final at Dunbar, but unfortunately, we both left runners up. From my own point of view, it makes me determined to make sure that we get back to Dunbar and go that step further and lift the trophy.
It won’t be easy on Saturday as our opponents are in the division above us and they have been going well this season in the league and also in the cups. You could say that we have the tag of underdogs going into this tie, but I’m sure that this is something our players will relish.
Training had been pretty light this week as a lot of our players are still feeling the effects of our extra time win last week against Camelon. Although I was not there, I heard that the team showed a lot of character and belief in tricky playing conditions; to see us through to the last 8 of the Lady Darling Cup where we have been awarded an away tie to Celtic Boys Club. Our players must put that to the back of their mind and concentrate on one game at a time and that is exactly what they will be getting told before the game on Saturday.
We will have to shuffle the pack a bit on Saturday as we have some players missing due to injury and work commitments however; this is the positive of carrying a squad of 18 players. I can see all the players hunger and determination in training to be wearing that black and white jersey and it’s important the players who find themselves on the fringes take their chance and prove the quality I know they possess.
