Leith Athletic Does Da Vinci

Here are Stevens thoughts on their game this weekend, as well as his thoughts on the trip.  A further update will hopefully be provided from Spain next week, with a full report on our website upon his return.

"This Saturday will hopefully be the weekend we finally travel to Camelon for our last 16 Lady Darling Cup tie, this fixture has been postponed for the last 2 weekends and to say the players and coaches are disappointed is an understatement, its important we are playing games and get our match fitness back from the Christmas break, we have a full squad to choose from and from my own point of view I really hope the game goes ahead this weekend as this Sunday sees me travel to Spain for the week on behalf of the Club with the SFA as part of the Leonardo Da Vinci Trip.

The trip will consist of people from different clubs from the South East Region and development officers from the SFA visiting clubs in the south east of Spain some involved in the third tier of Spanish football and also teams such as Hercules and Valencia at grass roots level. We’ll be taking in training sessions from these teams along with listening to how they set up their academies and what they look for in developing players.

Also at the hotel we are staying at Professional Clubs such as Otelul Galati (who Manchester United played in this years Champions League Group Stage) and Rosenborg will be training as it’s their preseason, we will be taking in their training sessions and seeing how the Professional Clubs prepare for the start of their domestic seasons.

As much as will be good for my own personal coaching development, I also hope to gather a lot of information to give back to the committee in a hope to further progress our soccer school and report back anything which I might see that can benefit the club as it is always important to continue taking our club forward.

I am very grateful for this opportunity and thank the Committee for selecting me for the trip, and plan to take as much from the trip as possible.  The only downside to my trip is missing a weeks training and also next Saturday’s game, we have a lot of big games coming up and none I want to miss but I’m sure the players are mature enough to get the job done while I am away."
