Lady Darling Preview

This weekend, we play Camelon Juniors Under 21’s in the last 16 of the Lady Darling Cup. The Lady Darling Cup is the consolation competition for those clubs knocked out of the early stages of the Scottish Cup and although we were very disappointed not to get a decent run in the Scottish Cup, we are determined to have a good run in this supplementary National Competition.

We are fortunate enough that our opponents this weekend are in the same League as ourselves and we have already played them twice this season. We lost 5-3 away from home in a league match, before winning 2-0 at home in the 1st round of the South East Regional Cup.

Camelon are not as bad a team as their league position (8th of 9) might suggest as they are strong, well organised side who have pace in the forward and wide areas, which will cause a lot of defence’s trouble.

Our preparation for the game has been a bit disappointing as we have only played one game since the New Year, which was a 4-1 win vs Calvary Park. However, the lads have looked sharp in training and we all know the importance of this weekend’s game.

We have our new signing Steven Philp available and we also welcome back Matthew Watson and Liam Todd from suspension, which gives Geoff, Scott, Graham and I, a good albeit hard choice in terms of team selection.

Cup ties can sometimes be pretty tricky, especially away from home, but we have the luxury of playing the game on the junior park in Camelon. I feel that this will suit our style of play by using the width of the park and although our match fitness will not be 100%, i believe that we have the ability, concentration and attitude to get the result to see us into the last 8 of this Competition.

Let’s hope the players have that same belief!
