A message from the Committee...
Hi Guys,
I would just like to thank everyone who took the time out today to support the club in the 3 cup finals played at Dunbar today.
All 3 teams won their fixture and, not wanting to take anything away from the 15s & 19s, pride of place has to go to the 13s 97 who played Dunbar in their own backyard and came back from 5 - 2 down early in the 2nd half to win the game 7 - 6 with virtually the last kick of the ball.
Great credit has to go to Gary & Maurice for agreeing to take the league champions on in what was close to a home game for Dunbar and the reward for them and their players is that the Kivlin Cup is sitting in the Leith Athletic trophy cabinet tonight.
Next up was our 15s who won their cup against Hutchison Vale, 1 – 0, although not as exciting as a 7 - 6 win, our boys were the superior team throughout the 80mins and fully deserved the win.
Unfortunately for the club this successful team played their last game today, as a lot of the boys have been offered pro youth terms at various clubs and as a club we have been fortunate that the majority of the boys have been chased for a few years by professional clubs but they have chosen to stay at Leith. We would like to thank Mark, Kevin & Tam for the time they have put in to this team and over the years they have been involved in the club. They can look back with satisfaction and pride on the basis that the team they produced always played football the right way and not many teams not only in Edinburgh but throughout the country could match their football ability.
Last but not least our 19s won by a big score in their final against Salveson (they scored the same amount as the 13s but never lost any)
Again a lot has been written about this team over the last few years but it is a joy to watch a team playing football with the ball on the deck and an ability to create chances every time they go forward.
As with the 15s, the 19s played their 2nd last game (1 cup final) to play.
It is great credit to Derek, Willie, Bob & the two Pauls for the work they put into the club, and as a club we look forward to this success they have had at the boys club level over the last 5 years moving on with the coaches in their new venture as the managers at the clubs East of Scotland team.
Looking forward to seeing you all at the player of year dance on Friday the 11th of June at the Hibs club.
Bert
